Split view

Edit several documents side by side in independent tab groups within one window — to compare two files, or keep a reference open while you edit.

Splitting

View menu:

Command	Shortcut	What it does
Split Right	Ctrl+\	Moves the active tab into a new pane to the right.
Split Document	Ctrl+Shift+\	Shows the same document in a second pane — edits in one appear in the other.

Groups can be split further; panes share the window and are resized by dragging the divider between them.

A split document is still one document

Both panes of a Split Document show one file, and the editor treats them as one: it is opened, watched, saved and closed once, and plugins — spell check, diagnostics from a language server, the preview panes — see a single document, not two. Closing one pane leaves everything working in the other.

Working across groups

• Move to Pane — from a tab's context menu, move it to another group.
• Merge Group — fold a group's tabs back into another group.
• Drag a tab from one group's tab bar onto another to move it across.

Saved layout

The arrangement of groups — which document is in which pane, and the panes' relative widths — is part of your session, so it is restored next launch (see the Session plugin). A document you split across two panes comes back split too, in both panes, as the one document it is.
