Third-party components

OctoEdit is built with open-source components. Each one is used under its own licence, and the full licence texts ship with every copy of OctoEdit: the components of the editor core under Licenses/ next to the application, the components bundled by a plugin under Plugins/Licenses/<plugin id>/. The About dialog lists them as well. This page is the same inventory with a link to each component's source.

Qt and the LGPL

Qt is used under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 3. OctoEdit links Qt dynamically and ships it as ordinary, replaceable shared libraries (Qt6*.dll on Windows, *.framework inside the application bundle on macOS), so you can replace them with your own build of the same Qt version.

  • The source code of the exact Qt version each OctoEdit package was built with, including the patches and build recipes used for the macOS build, is published on the Qt source archives page linked from every download page. (Placeholder: the link is added here when the archive page goes live.)
  • On macOS, replacing a Qt framework invalidates the application's code signature, so the bundle has to be re-signed afterwards; an ad-hoc signature made with the system codesign tool is enough.
